We deal in this chapter with the illicit international trade in archaeological and ethnographic objects. Such artifacts raise many of the same issues as works of art – thieves and vandals place ancient works, as well as more recent works, in the stream of commerce – but add additional policy concerns and legal problems.
Chapter 2 revisits a prominent gravity model-based empirical literature on the effects of free trade agreements by accounting for a potential bias caused by unobservable trade costs that operate through general equilibrium constraints.
